Dear Editor:

Re: Capilano Road Gridlock Prompts Petition, Aug. 9 front-page story.

As a parent who drives my child to track practice at Handsworth four times a week, I sympathize with residents of Upper Capilano.

When the Capilano Suspension Bridge was renovating their buildings and constructing the parking lot, I wrote to the District of North Vancouver and suggested that a pedestrian overpass be built, and paid for, by the Capilano Suspension Bridge. My suggestion was ignored. As the business that is causing the majority of the traffic issues on that road, I believe it is high time they take action, on their dime, to fix the problem. And please don’t tell me the structure cannot be built. If people could build a suspension bridge over the Capilano River in 1889 by hand, I am sure the engineers of today can figure out how to construct a pedestrian overpass.
