Dear editor:

Re: Police Seek Dashcam Footage, Jan. 29 news brief.

I live at the foot of St. Georges Avenue and use it as a corridor constantly to access Central and Upper Lonsdale.

All of the crosswalks across St. Georges Avenue, from Esplanade north to Keith Road, have inadequate lighting. The existing street lights are positioned where they don’t illuminate the crosswalks.

After dark, the visibility of pedestrians is extremely low. This time of year, most people are wearing dark clothing and if it’s raining as well, as we’ve seen, it’s an accident waiting to happen.

A pedestrian-activated signal would be an inexpensive way of saving a life. I hope the city does the right thing.
