LETTER: Nobody can predict climate change 85 years from now

Dear Editor:

Keith Baldrey pens an excellent column (Paris Agreement’s Lofty Goals Unrealistic, Dec. 16), but without getting into the whole debate about the validity or not of the anthropogenic climate change or global warming argument, I would just add that what is truly unrealistic are the predictions of what the climate will be in 85 years time.

No one can even predict what will happen a few months hence, never mind in 85 years time.

One thing local scientists have grabbed on to is that sea levels will rise a metre in this century; this despite the fact that the average rise over the last few centuries has been 18 cm per century, i.e. a 500 per cent increase all of a sudden. Where is all this water going to come from?
