Dear editor:

In the late 1950s my father emigrated from England to a small rural community called Ryder Lake, just outside of Chilliwack.

It was a time when children had the freedom to roam the countryside without today's "helicopter parents."

In his adventures, he would play with his cousin on an abandoned streetcar that had formerly been a chicken coop.

The streetcar sat on the Voight's homestead for many years and my father grew up never knowing the fate of the rusting streetcar until now.

Imagine his delight when I sent him the North Shore News article and he found that Streetcar No. 153 had been refurbished. He made a special trip on Canada Day to see its last trip in the parade before it heads to the new North Vancouver Museum.

I will look forward to taking him to see it first hand, once the museum is opened.

Congratulations to everyone who played a part in this beautiful restoration.
