Dear Editor:

I was surprised, but initially pleased to find that my Bank of Montreal branch in Ambleside now mandates wearing of masks to enter the branch. Signs were prominently displayed outside stating the new mask mandate, yet there had been no notification by mail or email regarding this change in policy - so no surprise that most customers admitted to the teller precinct were not wearing face masks, as no masks were supplied. Indeed, I note that in my experience BMO has not supplied hand sanitizer to their customers since the pandemic onset (unlike my credit union), despite the need to manually enter a PIN at the ATM or teller desk.

Banks and other businesses profess to have the health of their employees and clients top of mind, but frequently do little to show this is true.

Heaven forbid that cost of a mandated mask cut into BMO's bottom line were they to supply it!
