Dear Editor:

We wish to express our strong support for the conceptual plan that Roger Brooks prepared for the Lower Lonsdale area. This feasibility study is close to completion and was presented to the mayor and council in chambers on Feb. 19. Mr. Brooks is a visionary and has suggested that the city could become the best waterfront area in Canada using approaches that have been tried and tested in numerous cities around the world, especially in the U.S. The vision applies "out-of-the-box" thinking including expanded plazas and public areas, an ice rink, fountains, a ferris wheel and other amenities designedo enhance business opportunities and make the area people-friendly. The budget is estimated as $25 million and can be obtained via creative financing approaches including public-private partnerships. The City of North Vancouver should pursue Brooks' plan aggressively and transform Lower Lonsdale into the best waterfront area in Canada.
