Dear Editor:
Thank you for your Oct. 27 story (Towers Pitched for Lynn Creek) where you talked about the displacement of light industrial land in Lynn Creek due to housing redevelopment of existing businesses. Unfortunately, the staff report from the district did not clearly paint the real picture.
When the property was purchased in the spring of 2016, there were close to 32 businesses operating on Hunter Street at Mountain Highway.
Many of these businesses had owners and employees living and working on the North Shore. They paid higher than average wages, and they wanted to stay.
Light industrial land is like farmland; it is disappearing. And like the food we yield from farmland, the jobs that exist on light industrial land are just as important.
Without that land, jobs and business go elsewhere.
The district plan that allows this land use to disappear needs to be reviewed, so we can continue to support people who want to live here, but also those who want to live and work here.
Coun. Lisa Muri
District of North Vancouver
