Dear Editor:
Your (Nov. 27 front-page) article on letter grades falling out of favour was so inconsistent.
If the new report cards are “not necessarily the easiest thing to understand,” why are school district administrators eagerly reporting back that most parents are “very enthusiastic that we’re moving away from grades?”
Surely, the essence of a high school report card is to clearly define how a student is doing.
Any system involving youngsters should be simple, and not so overly complex that each report card needs endless explanations on how to go about interpreting it.
There is a reason why letter grades and percentages have been used for decades (even centuries): everybody understands what they mean.
