Dear Editor:
It is unfortunate that the funding model for the proposed museum did not work out.
Was there a referendum, seeking the North Shore taxpayers’ approval of the project, including a proposed funding business plan, to vote on?
Did council inform the public about the financial success or financial failures of other museums that may have garnered more interest and support, or the reverse of that?
I believe most taxpayers would like a museum to preserve the past, but they also have the concerns that they alone will be held responsible for all operating costs because the admission ticket sales is not sufficient to support the museum. Are there any museums, except the Louvre, in Paris, that are financially successful? Maybe a listing of museums that are financially successful in Canada, without taxpayer involvement, after they open, would instill confidence in the project and assist people to donate. Maybe? Yes? No?
