Trevor Lautens' column on the Vancouver Downtown Eastside is a masterpiece in descriptive writing. I walked with him in the decaying shabby area in my mind, and remembered my shopping days with my children at Christmas time. As usual Mr. Lautens hits the spot with his last sentence "no sign of Christmas."
