LETTER: It's Lower Lonsdale, please - no mo' LoLo

Dear Editor:

I have noticed it is becoming increasingly common for the North Shore News to take journalistic liberty with the term "Lower Lonsdale." More and more articles refer to this area as "LoLo."

I believe that the usage of this abbreviation is an attempt by the North Shore News journalists to emulate New York City, where abbreviations are used (annoyingly, in my opinion) as names for areas in that city.

For example "SoHo" means "South of Houston Street" and TriBeCa' means "Triangle Below Canal Street."I rather like the term "Lower Lonsdale," and would prefer that the North Shore News treat this area with more dignity. The term "LoLo" sounds like the name for a candy bar, or perhaps a saloon girl in a cheap cowboy movie.
