Letter: Hey North Shore trail users, horses have right of way

Horses have right of way

Dear Editor:

In your June 23 Car Care special section, a staff writer penned an article about horses in traffic. Thank you very much indeed.

As a horse rider in the Lillooet Road area, I hugely appreciate any information that non-horse people can find. There used to be lots of horses on the North Shore, but the buildup of population is steadily pushing them out.

Most of the people whom I and other riders meet on the roads and trails are quite wonderful and thoughtful, but there is a handful of dog owners and bike riders who don’t know the rules of the trails. Bikes give way to walkers and horses, and people give way to horses.

Bikers are predators to a horse – fast and silent. Aggressive, uncontrolled, off-leash dogs are wolves by nature.
