LETTER: Glad Christmas tidings to all

Dear Editor: In December, I decorate my Christmas tree with treasured Christmas ornaments, place a Christmas wreath on my front door, light my Christmas candles, string my Christmas lights and listen to Christmas carols piped everywhere.

Dear Editor:

In December, I decorate my Christmas tree with treasured Christmas ornaments, place a Christmas wreath on my front door, light my Christmas candles, string my Christmas lights and listen to Christmas carols piped everywhere.

I wonder at the present discomfort around wishing “Merry Christmas” to friends, colleagues and passersby, for fear of offending. We comfortably wish others “Happy Holidays” and “Season’s Greetings” but think twice before issuing a jaunty “Merry Christmas.”

We seem to have forgotten that without Christmas there is no season, and without Christmas there is no holiday. As a fourth-generation Canadian who cherishes the Christmas traditions and the message of hope, love and caring they represent, I will be wishing Merry Christmas to all I meet.

You’ll know I am heading your way with Christmas tidings when you see the tiny Christmas lights blinking on my Christmas-themed scarf.
