Dear editor:

I am an 81-year-old man who was coming in from the airport and catching the West Vancouver 250 bus to get home on July 1.

At Park Royal a group of young people came on dressed up in Canada Day attire. They all went to the back of the bus and with gales of laughter followed by full-throated singing, they launched into “O Canada.” I was very impressed, indeed moved by this expression of love for Canada by these young people at the back of the bus.

So I propped up my suitcase so it wouldn’t go for a ride, and staggered to the back of the bus with camera in hand and tonight, Canada Day, I took their photo. The singing had finished but the enthusiasm warmed my heart.

For me it was a generational moment of great promise, listening to and looking at these young people singing their hearts out in appreciation for this little plot of land we call Canada.

I rest easy tonight.

We are in good hands.

I should be in bed after a day of travelling but I felt I wanted to share this “welcome home” experience along with the photo.
