Dear Editor:
I agree with Paul Sullivan (Tax Exemption Process Is Stupid In Triplicate, North Shore News, Feb. 15).
The tax exemption process is stupid. I also think the tax itself is unjust. Although (unlike some other countries) property rights are not enshrined into Canada's Constitution - the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, forcing people to share (rent) one's property with others smacks of communism (remember the movie Doctor Zhivago?) Note that empty rooms or homes save on schooling, water, sewer costs etc. (while still requiring homeowners to pay those municipal taxes), and reduce road congestion (fewer cars)! It is also a violation of the Charter section 6 (mobility rights) to discriminate among persons primarily on the basis of province of present or previous residence.
I hope a future provincial government reverses these unjust taxes/penalties.
