LETTER: Election Act sets rules

Dear Editor: Would it be possible to have a cut-off date for the absentee voters, say, two weeks before the election date, so that we can find out who won a seat on the evening of election day? Recounts might be necessary but should be extremely rare

Dear Editor:

Would it be possible to have a cut-off date for the absentee voters, say, two weeks before the election date, so that we can find out who won a seat on the evening of election day?

Recounts might be necessary but should be extremely rare.

Editor’s note: Elections BC’s manager of communication, Andrew Watson, offers the following explanation. “Current timelines are established in the Election Act. To alter them would require legislative change. The current timelines allow voters to vote at any voting opportunity in B.C. from when the election is called until the close of voting on General Voting Day.”
