Dear Editor:

I have been a resident of North Vancouver for over 20 years (notice I don’t differentiate on legal entity) and I enjoy many elements of our community, our parks and recreation services. Coun. Craig Keating’s recent comment during debate over Harry Jerome has me perplexed ...

“We’re actually carrying the freight for the two other districts who just can’t get it together to fund the things that their citizens want,” he said, suggesting the Districts of North and West Vancouver are: “too profligate or too cheap to fund their obligations.”

I honestly don’t know where Keating gets his facts from, or who he interacts with – but even a person with an ounce of common sense would know that those in the City of North Vancouver make far more use of the DWV or DNV community amenities, parks and services. And those residents in the DNV now have the new Delbrook Community Centre and Lions Gate in a few years. I’m quite certain – past, present and future that “your residents” will be benefiting ... and where will the CNV be?

Such pretentious statements without justification are a key driving force as to why there is strong cause for productive discussion around amalgamation. And I would challenge you and your outgoing mayor cohort just can’t get your head around the big picture. Such “vision” that the status quo is just not good enough – is fundamentally what the residents of North Vancouver are looking for.

Until then, and by all means, feel free to act like President Trump and put up a wall around the City of North Vancouver. Then we’ll see who needs whom.
