Dear Editor:
District of North Vancouver council should truly listen and take heed of the comments of [residents who spoke during the public input period of the July 26 meeting of council] Eric Anderson and Oscar Hugo as I feel they represent not just the opinion of the vast silent majority, but are also indicative of the community’s desire for common sense in all forms of land use planning and development.
As Coun. Lisa Muri so aptly states, North Van (District), - it’s a great place - and questions why we are trying to change it. Still others point out that change, or some would say progress, will always happen and you can’t stop it.
The challenge before council, and I will call it the instruction from the citizens - the electorate, is get it right, don’t let the developers run the show.
Don’t do what the City of North Vancouver is doing with condo density so extreme that it now includes highrises replacing parks and rec land.
As for affordable housing, preserve what you have by stopping the density up-zoning of the existing older rental stock and only at sensible locations, add new density.
