Dear Editor:

Re: Construction Begins on New Argyle Secondary Following Delay, June 10 story.

I was both relieved and angered to read that the Argyle rebuild is finally going to start. Relieved, because it is so long overdue. Angered because the delay was completely unnecessary. We can thank the previous Liberal government who, under the pretext of “fiscal responsibility,” refused to provide the funding for the new school, instead only paying for a seismic upgrade and forcing the school board to sell off existing school property to make up the difference (because hey, we’re never going to need that land in the future, right?!). It should have been completed five years ago. Now, because it’s taken so long it will cost even more money as construction costs have risen. Sadly, this is yet another reminder of the previous government’s disdain for public education. So much for fiscal responsibility!
