LETTER: Current prime minister not superior to his intellectual father

Dear Editor:

It was interesting to read (columnist) Elizabeth James’ odd comparison of Justin Trudeau to Pierre Elliott Trudeau, his father.

According to James, “mindless celebrity-style fans” drove the 1968 election mania surrounding his father, whereas Justin’s recent win came about because “people were discussing real issues.”

In this vacuous age of social media, with celebrity worship at an all-time high, I find it hard to accept that our current selfie-inclined prime minister is somehow superior to his far more erudite and intellectual father. Shouldn’t this all be the other way around?
