Dear Editor:
In reference to the renovation of Harry Jerome, I feel it would be only right for the North Vancouver Recreation and Culture Commission to right a wrong that was done to the curlers about 20 years ago.
Our North Vancouver Curling Club had many leagues, plus we ran training sessions for students. Many seniors enjoyed afternoon leagues and were able to enjoy home baking afterwards.
Then the rec commission went against us, taking away our facility so a private gymnastics club could rent the arena area. We were pushed to go to the North Shore Winter Club and curl, but it was very difficult as the private members were not happy and we could tell.
Many public members quit, including me. The rec commission promised us back then that if something ever happened to the winter club curling, they would reinstate our curling rink. I remember them promising to keep all the ice-making equipment.
We need our curling rink back. There are so many facilities and programs for kids, hardly anything for seniors. The rec commission took our rink in order to get rent from Flicka Gymnastics. It’s time to right the wrong.
