Letter: Curb cuts needed now to make crosswalk accessible

People with mobility issues or with strollers will find themselves at a standstill
Pedestrian Danger01WEB

Dear Editor:

I notice that the new sidewalk at the renovated Lynn Valley Centre, outside the old Save-On-Foods, has no curb cuts at the crosswalk to Lynn Valley Village.

Once again, there seems to be no communication between the District of North Vancouver and the centre around the subject of access between the two -- when the district-owned Lynn Valley Village first opened, there were no curb cuts on that side of the crosswalk.

This is going to make the crosswalk inaccessible to people with mobility issues or with strollers. I hope it will be remedied quickly.

Elizabeth Mathers

Editor’s note: A District of North Vancouver spokesperson has responded to say, “Accessibility is an important component of all developments in the District of North Vancouver and we understand it is important to residents, too. We've spoken with our development engineering department and what the letter-writer describes is an incomplete portion of the Bosa project. Ultimately, the developer will build a raised crosswalk connecting Lynn Valley Village with Lynn Valley Town Centre. For now, a temporary ramp will be installed by the developer.”
