Open letter to the District of North Vancouver:

Re: North Van Looks to Quiet City Soundscape, Sept. 13 news story.

It did my heart good to read reporter Brent Richter’s article about a motion brought forward by City of North Vancouver Coun. Tony Valente about how the urban soundscape impacts public health.

Capilano and Ridgewood is a bedroom community and used to be a pleasant place to live, but now we are inundated with mega traffic, mostly headed for the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Grouse Mountain.

Granted these businesses want to keep the tourists coming, but maybe the number of buses could be limited. The noise and pollution from all the traffic is unacceptable, especially when it is stalled outside our units.

I don’t know what the solution might be but perhaps inspections of all tourist buses, construction trucks, muscle cars and motorbikes would be a good place to start.

Also, the use of air brakes should be banned.

The regular transit buses are not a problem.

When a resident has to use headphones in order to hear the TV, we have a problem.

I have been told many times that the traffic will calm down in the fall, but then comes the ski season.
