Dear Editor:
As I am now close to 106 years, my memory goes back quite a distance.
My house in West Vancouver looks down on the harbour and I notice so much boat traffic – huge tankers coming right through the harbour and under Lions Gate Bridge out into the gulf.
I understand that the premier of Alberta has borrowed a billion dollars to get the oilsands up and producing oil. I wonder where the Alberta premier was able to borrow the billion dollars needed to bring the oilsands to production level? It strikes me that Alberta could have better used a billion dollars on finding a climate-friendly business that the people of Alberta could be proud to manage and thus provide employment for the working public.
Trudeau brought up the subject of the cancellation of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline to the United States, on his very first conversation with President Joe Biden, although well aware of his climate policy. In doing so he has set out in opposition instead of recognizing Biden as a valuable ally in limiting and adapting to climate change.
Surely, at this time everyone must be aware of the effect of oil fumes on the environment?
