Dear Editor:
I am writing in response to the (June 30 front-page) article West Van to Attempt Sale of Donated Land.
As a former housekeeper and friend of Norine and Pearly Brissenden, I knew intimately how much they loved their modernism style home and their property and gardens. I expressed this in a letter to West Vancouver mayor and council months ago.
The Brissendens made a very generous donation of their property to West Van and their neighbourhood.
The 25 years of neglecting this gift by the District of West Vancouver is appalling, and now to disrespect them further by (applying to the B.C. Supreme Court to alter) the trust? Shame.
As a friend of theirs, I told council that I did not support any action except to uphold the trust.
West Van’s mayor and council flunked at ethics. Pearly was a good lawyer. I only hope his trust document stands up in Supreme Court.
