LETTER: Amalgamation would cost taxpayers

As a City of North Vancouver ratepayer, I’m skeptical of amalgamation. I’ve long been impressed by the way the city efficiently delivers “one of everything” in a few square miles.

More than 100 years ago, the land owners in what is now the city rejected inclusion in the district municipality, on the grounds that the district was too spread out to efficiently deliver services. The last time I looked at mill rates, this belief appears to have been borne out.

What assurances would city property owners have that we would not pay more taxes after amalgamation? And more importantly, what assurances would we have that public consultation on a new name would not result in something wacky like “Blue Shore City”?
