Dear Editor:
Re: Senior Struggles in North Van Shelter, Feb. 17 story.
We are a strange society. Innocent elderly are denied suitable accommodation because they are poor, powerless and ignored by our system.
On the other hand, criminals are housed in facilities that are regulated for warmth, cleanliness and comfort and cost about $150,000 annually for each of them. Surely it should be possible to transfer sufficient funds from justice budgets to provide homes for the (impoverished) elderly.
Can we really continue to brag about this most wonderful country in the world in the face of what we know is unfair, unreasonable and cruel?
