Dear Editor:

Re: WV Chastised for Letting Klee Wyck Rot, May 11 front-page story and the draft arts and culture strategy, to be presented to West Vancouver council in June.

The results are in but is the council listening?

The North Shore Artists’ Guild, established in 1947 as the West Vancouver Sketch Club, represents more than 300 artists. Over the years the guild has seen nothing but a slow erosion of support for the arts in West Vancouver.

The Klee Wyck building where we used to store easels has fallen in ruin; the Lawson studio, home of painting groups and workshops has been torn down. What’s next? Is it the Silk Purse or the Music Box?

While we are ever hopeful that the council will make arts and culture a priority, actions speak louder than a survey report.

Lynda Fownes, president,
North Shore Artists’ Guild
