Dear Editor:
With the recent birth of Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana I thought it would be worthwhile to remind North Shore News readers that the stretch of water between West Vancouver and Bowen Island, plied by B.C. Ferries and pleasure craft alike, is called the Queen Charlotte Channel.
The Queen Charlotte Islands were renamed Haida Gwaii, but the Queen Charlotte Sound between the south of Haida Gwaii and the mainland and the Queen Charlotte Channel at the entrance of Howe Sound remain.
Queen Charlotte, wife of George 111 was Queen Consort of Great Britain and Ireland from 1761-1801 — until the king’s death. She then reigned as the queen of the United Kingdom until 1818.
