Dear Editor:
Re: Condos and Traffic Over Coffee and Tea; North Shore MLAs Debate Local Issues with Business Leaders at North Van Chamber Breakfast, Nov. 17 front-page story.
MLA Bowinn Ma commented on traffic on the North Shore by saying, “building more lanes and bridges won’t fix the traffic congestion problem.” I beg to differ.
The evidence of regional transportation infrastructure improvements, like the new Port Mann and related highway access, would show that traffic is flowing nicely over the new 10-lane Port Mann Bridge.
I understand we might not have the funds for a replacement or additional bridge but it would certainly improve traffic flow if we did have a 10-lane North Shore bridge.
Public transit services are also expensive and can’t be used by most drivers using the Ironworkers bridge because of their purpose or destination. Drivers of trucks, drivers travelling to most areas on the North Shore and ferry, and Squamish and Whistler traffic can not use public transit. It would be really nice if our MLAs could at least imagine the solution for our traffic woes.
