Learn to change behaviours if you live in bear country

Dear Editor:

After reading in the paper today about another black bear/human conflict on the North Shore ending in the death of a bear (Two Bears Shot in North Vancouver on One Day, North Shore News, July 8)), I am outraged as a North Shore resident that those living in this wonderful place still don't get it.

We live in bear country, end of story. We humans have to learn to coexist here, not the bears. This individual "spotted a black bear and continued to run, prompting the bear to chase him, according to conservation officers."

This person must be living under a rock or is a complete moron, otherwise, I cannot fathom, with all the information out there about how to act when you encounter a bear, that they determined that continuing to jog away from a bear was the best idea. Now, because of this person's idiotic decision, we have another dead bear.

When are people going to get it? If you can't, or aren't willing to change your human behaviour(s) that cause bear/ human conflicts, then you should move downtown into the city. The North Shore is bear country, whether you like it or not.
