Dear Editor:
The parole of Sasan Ansari and his continuing studies in law at UBC after the stabbing murder of a friend hit me in the gut (Paroled Killer Goes to Law School, North Shore News, Aug. 31).
Something is amiss in this picture - unless by becoming a lawyer, Ansari will decide to defend victims of crime and make a contribution to humanity and this community.
Regardless, it likely won't be difficult for him to find work. As an insider for two years in prison he will no doubt have access to a large network of character witnesses and underground connections; he'll have clients lined up waiting for his expertise in getting short prison sentences for horrific crimes. What law firm wouldn't want someone with such a potentially large client base?
The future is unwritten for this young man, and he has choices to make. Let's hope there is a heart somewhere in there along with the brains. And may there be the support needed to live a better life. He likely can't do it on his own or with the company he's kept in the past.
