It's your vote

FOR the best part of the last three weeks, the candidates in the three North Shore municipalities and two school districts have spent most of their waking hours trying to get their message to the voters.

Since Sunday Oct. 23, every issue of this paper has contained at least one story connected to Saturday's municipal elections. Our columnists have opined on issues and candidates. Each and every candidate has had the opportunity to put their photograph and a few words on what is important to them in front of our readers.

Ratepayer associations, community groups and the North Shore News have hosted all-candidates' meetings. Each municipal website has links to candidate profiles.

While we may not agree with the process by which West Vancouver Citizens for Good Government chooses its recommended slate, at least the organization plays a role in promoting election awareness.

So too do organizations like West Vancouver Soccer Club and West Vancouver Field Hockey Club - although it seems odd to us that both clubs would post lists of sports-friendly candidates "not discussed or approved by the club board."

At this point, frankly, any resident who says they don't know anything about the candidates is demonstrating ignorance based on laziness.

It's your vote. If you fail to use it, like so many voters did three years ago, you will have no right to complain about the actions of a municipal council that you took no part in choosing.
