Dear Editor:

During the recent all-candidates meeting hosted by the Grand Boulevard-Ridgeway Residents Association, Craig Keating, running for re-election as a councillor in the City of North Vancouver, was asked the following question: Should you be re-elected as a councillor in the civic election Nov. 19, and running in the provincial election in the spring of 2013 as the nominated NDP candidate, and were successful, what would you do?

He responded that he would resign as a city councillor, which would require a byelection at an approximate cost of $90,000 (according to the city clerk). How can it be that someone can run in a civic election, knowing that it may be they can only fulfill half their term? I know that legally it's possible, but is it ethical? Not to me.
