The Lions Gate Bridge officially opened 80 years ago this week, built by British Pacific Properties in an effort to connect the North Shore with Greater Vancouver. A fun fact: when the bridge officially opened in 1938, it was opened to pedestrians two days before cars were allowed to cross. These days, while many commuters might feel like they’ve been stuck in bridge traffic for 80 years, those who opt to bike or walk the span connecting Stanley Park and West Vancouver can usually glide right over.
Have you ever actually walked the bridge?
