Dear Editor:

Build on our strengths.

Who is West Vancouver Chamber of Commerce president Gabrielle Loren to describe Ambleside as "yucky" (AmblesideWhen, Aug. 21, North Shore News)?

Has she set foot in our bewitching card shop or browsed through our charming bookstore that looks carved out of Narnia's woods? Has she sat on a grassy knoll beside the sailing club and watched family after family joyfully launch all manner of watercraft? Has she strolled our clean beaches?

This is Ambleside: compact, sedate and secure; not loud, late-night and risqué. The coffee shop the article faults for closing early is jam-packed from morning on. Just around the corner, Cindy's Cafe recently began to open earlier in the morning on account of increased demand. A pie shop thrives across the street from two newly opening restaurants.

Civic planners with "visions" would be well advised to wake up and smell the success of what already works in Ambleside.
