Dear Editor:
I was glad to see his worship the mayor of West Vancouver respond on March 17 in the North Shore News to Gail Cotter's letter and subsequent comment from others about the redevelopment of the 1300-block of Ambleside.
Grosvenor Group, the front-running applicant, is a worldwide private company owned by the Duke of Westminster, a group long active in real estate development in Vancouver and major cities around the globe. Obviously they would not interest themselves in Ambleside without the prospect of substantial gains.
Why can't we go it ourselves piece by piece with local urban planners, architects and builders? Perhaps we would get the modest charming low-density Ambleside-by-the-Sea most of us want.
A qualified citizen's group sitting down with council and staff would be a good start
