Foot fault, West Van

Dear Editor:

It is incredible for the public to suddenly learn that the District of West Vancouver is discontinuing the use of the three well-used public tennis courts in the recreation block at Gordon Avenue for a period of two years. They will be made into to a parking area because the developer of the old Wetmore site needs parking space. This highly questionable action by council will deny the pleasure of the many that play the game, mainly West Vancouver youth, in favour of the developer.

Does this mean that when Block 1300 (the existing police station) is developed, the tennis courts at Ambleside and the users will get the same treatment? Where else will this principle be applied by council, our alleged representatives.

Why two years? There will be underground parking at the development site and that must surely be completed within six to eight months. So why cannot this be used for parking and the courts only discontinued for this period?

Come on, West Vancouver, let's have some innovative thinking rather than taking the easy way out and running rough-shod over an existing operation.
