FIPPA a slick move by PM

Dear Editor: What a crafty Prime Minister we have.

Dear Editor:

What a crafty Prime Minister we have. Just when it looks like negative public opinion toward the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline could make future approval of the project unlikely, Stephen Harper comes up with a powerful trump card which he is trying to keep close to his sleeve: His government is poised to approve the secretive Canada-China Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement which would give foreign corporations sweeping powers. Chinese corporations could sue Canadian governments for implementing common-sense environmental protections to stop proposed pipelines such as the Enbridge project.

Even worse, these corporate lawsuits would happen in secret tribunals outside Canadian legal channels. Soon he'll be telling us that projects have to be go ahead or we are going to be sued for millions or billions of dollars. If you want to stop the Nexen buyout or the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline, then the time to speak out is now: Say no to FIPPA loudly and clearly.
