Dear Editor:
Every year, I am in the Canada Day Parade, near the front with all the vintage military vehicles. This affords me the opportunity to be part of the event, and then to watch the parade as it reaches its finishing point at Mahon Park.
The parade is a fantastic gathering of the people of North Vancouver and elsewhere who are proud of their country and grateful to live in such a wonderful place. Our elected representatives were all in the parade: both mayors, our MP, both MLAs. As experienced politicians, they cheerfully greeted their constituents and shared the day with no partisan politicking.
But some inexperienced politician who hopes to represent the NDP just doesn't get that. He got himself into the parade and had some offensive young kids with him waving placards and yelling at the crowd, "No pipeline!" Frankly, I would have been deeply offended by this behaviour even if I agreed with their message.
Being in the Canada Day Parade in North Vancouver is fun, and a privilege, and no place for tasteless ideological rants and protest.
