Densifying Lynn Valley will not 'improve' it

Dear Editor:

As a current resident of Lynn Valley I must voice my complete dissent with any proposal for increasing the density in the town centre by adding highrise developments.

Lynn Valley has always been a special community for families. It is an area of the district with a distinct and colourful history and further densification will not be an improvement - especially if that densification includes highrises.

With access and egress limited to three narrow corridors, Mountain Highway, Lynn Valley Road and Dempsey Road, any increase in density will place an unprecedented burden on these already overburdened streets.

Lynn Valley is the gateway to all the natural beauty that the north-east corner of our community holds, including Lynn Canyon and the Lynn Headwaters Park. These, and other attractions have already created an excess of traffic on Lynn Valley streets that the local residents have been willing to accept in order that we can share the beauty and majesty of the North Shore mountains with everyone not fortunate enough to live here. Major highrise developments will not enhance this area.

The district has already permitted highrise developments in the lower end of Lynn Creek at Lynnmour, an area that was in need of improvement. Not so with Lynn Valley. Please, your worship and council, consider carefully, and respect the wishes of the people who live in this community and do not permit further densification in Lynn Valley just to please large property developers.
