How many board meetings did you attend in person in the last year? I have never missed a meeting
What is the single biggest challenge facing the school district and how will you achieve a solution? The biggest challenge boards face is imminent bargaining pressure between BCPSEA and the BCTF, and between boards and local teaching associations. As employers, boards have legal responsibilities at several levels and I will collaborate with my fellow trustees to ensure respectful and productive relations with management, teachers, and support staff.
What are your thoughts on the province’s new curriculum? I support curriculum development through collaboration between the public, educators, and experts, and the phased approach to implementation allows thoughtful revision of content and assessment.
Why do we need a school board when so much is dictated by the province? Our ability to achieve educational excellence is possible through innovative, diverse, and locally relevant opportunities that enable us to overcome funding deficits and changing demographics.
