What is the single biggest challenge facing the school district and how will you achieve a solution? Budgets are largely committed to personnel and facilities, so we must maximize value from each dollar of discretionary spending. Human resources are SD44’s greatest asset and the Board must provide respectful and creative leadership. The right people in the right places help ensure success for all.
What are your thoughts on the province’s new curriculum? BC's new curriculum intends that students explore personal interests while building communication, thinking and social skills. A good aim but short term implementation challenges exist.
Why do we need a school board when so much is dictated by the province? Boards consult with and advocate for families and communities. Less local influence means authority shifts to provincial bureaucrats, none responsive or accountable to an electorate.
