Is the present council effectively managing growth in the municipality?
West Vancouver's population has decreased slightly while built form has increased, so it’s not really a question of managing growth.
However, where we do fall short is that we are trying to make important housing decisions without an actual Housing Policy and strategy to guide us.
Should West Van take steps to curb vacant homes, housing speculation and/or foreign ownership and if so, how?
Housing speculation leads to vacant homes, and locals can’t compete with foreign money. I would support a restriction on foreign ownership of residential property.
What is your vision for the Ambleside waterfront?
This precious environmental resource must be protected for generations to come. I’m adamant about maintaining our open park space, so no new buildings on the waterfront outside of existing footprints.
Additionally, Ambleside's natural waterfront offers the public an intimate connection to the sea, supports diverse passive and active recreation, exhibits community and First Nations cultural art, and celebrates our waterfront history, all within walking access to our charming Seaside Village commercial amenities.
What are your priorities if elected?
- Develop a Housing Policy and implementation strategy.
- Ensure infrastructure, including transit service, is keeping up with development.
- Strengthen and enhance neighbourhood character and natural environment.
- Ensure that the results of our Local Area Plans accurately reflect the will and the vision of our residents.
