What is the single biggest challenge facing the school district and how will you achieve a solution? Change...new curriculum, new computer programs, restoration of collective agreement, etc. It's not negative change but teachers and District have been inundated. The solution is time, patience, funding for curriculum and teacher resources, staff training, and improved communication. I support initiatives that support our educators so they can support our students.
What are your thoughts on the province’s new curriculum? It was researched internationally and co-created with education partners including BCTF, based on best practice. It teaches students to critically think, collaborate and problem solve.
Why do we need a school board when so much is dictated by the province? The province sets the framework and guidelines. School Boards create a school system that reflects local priorities, values and expectations while advocating for appropriate resources.
