What's up at council this week?

We’ve got cash on the table and oil on the agenda as both our North Vancouver councils are set to spring into deliberative action Monday night.

City of North Vancouver

Now that the taxman is taking a bigger bite of Canada’s mayors and councillors, the city is considering a $43,000 salary top-up.

If approved, the mayor’s yearly salary would rise to $127,111 – a $19,926 hike. Councillors would see their salary hop by $5,376 to $42,454. Those figures also include previously planned salary hikes tied to the consumer price index and other factors.

In addition to salaries, a pair of six-storey buildings at 210-230 East Second St. might be rising. Council is considering 160 rentals that would replace 64 apartments in two three-storey buildings.

And finally: should we have bike valets at city events?

That’s the question cycling advocate Coun. Tony Valente wants staff to investigate.

District of North Vancouver

The district has a distinctly environmentally-themed agenda Monday night.

Following a presentation on the cost of climate change, council is set to discuss the workability of a plan to chop greenhouse gas emissions by 45 per cent by 2030 and by 100 per cent by 2050.

Due to the Indigo-sized hole at 1015-1037 Marine Dr., the district is slated to mull allowing additional uses on the site including: an artist’s studio, fitness centre, pet care, a school or a veterinarian.

Lastly, council is also set to consider chipping in $2.16 million toward upgrading the concession and adding a new multi-purpose centre at Cates Park/Whey-ah-Wichen.

District of West Vancouver

West Vancouver council has the night off because there’s only so much pleasant debate about B-Line buses you can have.
