West Vancouver has reopened its sports courts in the Ambleside area.

The skateboard park, basketball courts and the tennis court, which were all shutdown in March in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, have been reopened this weekend, confirmed Donna Powers, spokeswoman for the District of West Vancouver.

Adventure Park – an outdoor space adjacent to Gleneagles Community Centre which features a concrete skate park, dirt jumps for mountain bikers, and asphalted area for beginner riders – has also reopened, according to Powers.

The district, along with the two North Vancouver municipalities, is working to slowly reopen all of the currently closed park and other outdoor recreation spaces in the coming weeks, following recommendations from the provincial health officer.

While Adventure Park and the Ambleside sports courts are now open for hoop heads and skaters alike, the district is still urging people to practise safe physical distancing of at least two metres apart from others while using these spaces.

The district also recommends avoiding these public spaces if they seem too crowded.

“For instance, in the basketball courts … focus on skills development, don’t have organized games,” said Powers.

West Vancouver reopened Gleneagles Golf Course, with new safety rules in place, on May 1.
