District of West Vancouver property owners can expect a 3.65 per cent hike in their 2018 tax rates, roughly.

Members of council passed their 2018 budget Monday night bringing with it a 2.09 per cent increase in municipal taxes to cover inflation in their operating budget and a 1.56 per cent levy to help pay for the repair and replacement of aging infrastructure.

District staff estimate that will translate to a tax bill $126 higher for homes valued at the median assessment of $2.8 million. That does not include, however, rising utility rates from Metro Vancouver, which will bring the total percentage increase above five per cent.

Among the new line items is funding for West Vancouver Fire and Rescue to hire an additional deputy chief.

The District of North Vancouver has already passed its 2018 budget, which included a two per cent increase to maintain services and another one per cent for infrastructure renewal.
