Detour… There’s a muddy road ahead, detour.

Highway 1 will be shut down in both directions overnight on several occasions over the next month as the Lower Lynn Improvement Project lumbers on.

Between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19 and Monday, May 25 as well as Monday, June 1 and Thursday, June 11, eastbound and westbound drivers will be diverted off the highway near Lynn Creek.

Drivers coming down the Cut will have get off at Exit 22 (Keith Road/Mount Seymour Parkway) and take lower Mountain Highway down to the Main Street on-ramp. Drivers headed for the Cut will have to get off at Exit 22B and hang a larry at Mount Seymour Parkway to re-enter the highway.

The closures are to allow crews to safely install girders for the new Keith Road underpass.

The entire project, including upgrades to all the interchanges at the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows bridgehead is expected to be completed in the fall of 2021.

Cost for the $200-million project is being shared by the province ($76.7 million) and federal government ($66.6 million), as well as District of North Vancouver taxpayers, who are contributing $54.7 million.
