North Shore athletes had a strong showing at the Junior Elite Nationals diving competition in Winnipeg in June.

The event, held June 1-3 at Winnipeg's Pan Am Pool, is for Canada's top athletes in the sport, ages 14 to 18.

Of the 16 divers competing from B.C., six were from the North Shore, with five of those athletes placing in the top 12 in their events.

On girls 14-15 platform, Veronica Fong placed sixth. “I was really happy with my performance,” said Fong. “I was a little nervous since I added a new dive to my list and this was the first time competing it, but was able to pull it off in both prelims and finals to finish sixth.”

On boys 16-18 platform, Nick Nepomuceno placed seventh, scoring his first 9s and 9.5s at a national competition. On girls 14-15 three-metre, Sadie Howard placed eighth. In girls 14-15 one-metre, Morgan Dalgarno placed 11th. And in girls 16-18 one-metre, Maggie Osieja placed 12th.

Competing at her first nationals, Olivia Brennan placed 19th on girls 14-15 three-metre.

All of the North Shore athletes train with iDive, out of the Vancouver Aquatic Centre.
